“spectral luminis” 2025, oil on canvas, 48 x 36 in.
Sea daffodils bloom along the shifting edge where land meets sea, a threshold between worlds. I first encountered them in Paros, their delicate forms rising from the dunes as if conjured from the island’s ancient breath. Under the August supermoon, they became spectral messengers, suspended between the seen and unseen.
This piece traces my own crossing between Western landscapes; from the desert horizons of my upbringing to the mythic shores of the Aegean. The three blossoms suggest the unseen presence of the Moirai, the Three Fates, weaving unseen threads of life, death, and what lingers in between. In both desert and sea, I found myself drawn to what lies beneath the surface…a quiet invitation to weave together the landscapes of my past with the mythologies of a place that feels both ancient and newly embedded in my practice.
“a beacon” 2025, oil on panel with cradled pine frame, 12 x 12 x 2 in.
This painting highlights the sea daffodil’s glow against a deep green backdrop, symbolizing change and transition. Growing where land meets sea, it echoes Greek myths involving heroes, nymphs, and gods crossing between the mortal realm and the divine.
Like the narcissus sacred to Hades and Persephone, its stark white bloom and autumnal flowering cycle made it a symbol of rebirth and transition. A beacon in the darkness, the sea daffodil embodies resilience, beauty, and the liminal space between presence and impermanence.
